Mission Statement

CHRISTIANS UNITED TO PRAY MISSION OBJECTIVES

We believe that many churches have lost the impetus that was once placed on prayer, and as a result, we are seeing the decline of the church’s influence in our society. It is our aim to attempt to bring prayer back to the forefront of the life and ministry of the church.

We desire "To honor God with our praise and thanksgiving and offer petitions for our nation, personal repentance and righteousness in our culture.” (National Day of Prayer)

1) We believe that corporate prayer is important. The early church met regularly to learn the doctrine of the apostles, break bread, and pray together (Acts 2:42)

2) We believe that corporate prayer is beneficial. Corporate prayer edifies and unifies us as we share our common faith (Acts 1:14)

3) We desire that our meetings demonstrate the following: that we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness (Matt 6:33); that we approach God with humility (James 4:10); truth (Psalm 145:18); obedience (1 John 3:21-22); with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6); with confidence (Hebrews 4:16).

4) We are guided by 2 Chron 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

5) We desire to see more unity among the Bible based churches (Eph 4:3-6) – putting aside differences not essential to the gospel and focusing on “exalting the ONE who unites us”

 (1 Cor 1:10), (Ps. 57: 5)

6) We believe that for revival to come to Roanoke, God's people need to stand united on His truths and pray together for His purposes and plan to be fulfilled. (Ps. 85:6), (Is.45: 8),
(Ps. 80:19), (Nu.10: 35)
7) We believe Corporate prayer is important because it creates unity (John 17:22-23; and is a key aspect of believers’ encouraging one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11) and spurring one another on to love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24).

We believe that Praise and Worship is a high form of prayer.

When we worship, we are not petitioning God and raising needs that we would like to see met. In worship, we praise our Father, God. It is God’s heart that we focus upon Him; that He holds first place in our praise and affections. (Ps. 100:2-4),
(Ps 95:1-6), (Ps. 150:1-6), (John 4:3), (Ps. 146:1-2), (Heb. 13:15)

Goals:

1) Revival in the Roanoke Valley, in our Nation, in the World

2) Unity of Christians churches – crossing the barriers that divide us and exalting the ONE who unites us.

3) Glorifying and Honoring God through community Praise and Worship

4) Encouraging corporate prayer – providing a non-intimidating atmosphere of small group prayer, where there is no pressure on any one individual. The Bible clearly shows us that one short simple sentence is an effective prayer. The Lord’s Prayer that Jesus taught to his disciples is an example of how to pray, and consists of seven simple sentences, each a complete prayer in itself (Matt 6:9-13)

5) Acquainting pastors with this ministry – who in turn might encourage their congregations to come pray with us. Prayer is the one most ignored aspects of the church in America, and this ministry provides the organization and opportunity for believers to pray together.Revival in the Roanoke Valley, in our Nation, in the World.
